EDITORIAL COMMENT!
I'm attempting here to create an archive site relevant to the Coventry Music and Arts Scene in the 1970's (with more emphasis on the early to mid period when I was actively involved variously as an Editor of the music Fanzine Hobo, musician, poet, lyricist and Co-organizer of band and poetry events for the Hobo Music Workshop / Coventry Arts Umbrella Club and more. Hopefully the material will be useful to researchers and to give a general flavour of the vibrant music culture in Coventry at that time, inspite of complaints, at times, of 'Apathy'. Everyone involved will remember it in different ways and remember different parts of it. There will be as many perceptions as there were people. These are some of my perceptions backed up by cuttings, flyers, lyrics, band cards and other illustrative artefacts.
Already uploaded are the Hobo Magazine Editorials and Covers; Reviews and Creative writing - ie poems, prose and lyrics either submitted to Hobo or in my Communication Books (A4 note books I used to carry around and get many of the creative people I met on my rounds to contribute to - their favourites or their own work) - these days you might call them Creative Community Blogs although in no way were they cyber blogs!
Constructive Comments and addtional information are Welcome.
Broadgate Gnome This is a great site, named after Coventry's first underground magazine and developed as a Band directory for the 60's to mid 70's. It's stronger on the 60's although I've sent material for the 70's. My material hasn't been fully uploaded though as the guys are busy but it's a great and well organised site well worth visiting.
Tim James - Another useful and interesting Coventry Music Site. Tim James led one of the more innovative bands in Coventry - Ra Ho Tep and was a member of Coventry's Super Group - Monster Magnet.
Last Fair Deal Last Fair Deal was originally an acoustic blues band associated with members of the Coventry band Wandering John. Their guitarist - John Alderson and Tim James have revived the band and this is their current site. Two top class blues / rock & Jazz musicians here.
Pete Chambers Although I have yet to check his work out my self, Pete is making great strides in documenting the Coventry Music scene with his books and articles. It's great that someone is doing this. Here is a link to his site and from which you can visit his Pete Chamber's My Space and also order his books!
