WAVE / WILLOW / WISER NOW / ZENITH
WAVE c 1972 / 3
Wave (which developed into the dynamic Khayyam) were a Jazz Rock band resident at the Earlsdon Cottage featuring lead guitarist Chris Jones. I can't remember the full line up for Wave but with some changes in line up they became Khayyam with I think Harry Heppinstall on drums and Dave Wickes on Keyboards and bass.
Khayyam went on the be atouring band playing a residency at Ronnie Scotts in London and touring the continent. John Bargent formerly a Hobo editor became their tour manager.
Some of them came from Just Jake into Wave and then Khayyam and from Khayyam to Quanna Parker and later to Side Effect.
WILLOW 1973 /4
Willow was Joe Reynold's band. Joe was one of the sax players and I think Mick Broadhurst was another member.
Joe Reynolds was also a poet and some of his poems are on this site (see index - under lyrics and poetry) and played on some of the early Selecter Tracks at Horizon studios in Coventry. Joe was a good friend and supported Hobo by advertising his band in the magazine.
WISER NOW 1970
Was another of Johnny Adam's bands (most people will remember Johnny as the lead guitarist who played with Squad at the time of the Sent From Covnetry album in 1979 with The Flasher). Johnny was a wide ranging performer from club bands to full blown Hawkwind style rock bands to punk but also played classical guitar and wrote some nice acoustic numbers too.
Johnny gave me some of his old band cards in 1972 /3 when we were mates and fellow musos. The card here tells you all I know about Wiser Now!
ZENITH
Early 70's band Rock n Roll and blues / Standard pop.
